Pune: Seize Rule-Violating Heavy Vehicles and Private Luxury Buses; Orders by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar

Pune: In response to the frequent traffic rule violations by heavy vehicles and private luxury bus drivers in the city, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has ordered immediate seizure of such vehicles. Expressing dissatisfaction over the current traffic enforcement, he emphasized that stricter action is necessary. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the traffic police training program on Wednesday.
Present at the event were Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioners Amol Zende, DCP Dr. Rajkumar Shinde, Ajay Agrawal, Shashikant Patil, Anil Pantoji, Prakash Jadhav, Mahadev Gavde, Ashok Shinde, Surendra Deshmukh, Manjiri Gokhale, and Urmila Dixit among others.
Commissioner Kumar stated that heavy vehicles are responsible for a significant number of accidents in the city, often leading to fatalities. In fact, he remarked that deaths due to road accidents have surpassed those caused by murders, and that such accidents are no less serious. Despite existing restrictions and fines, these vehicles continue to operate freely within city limits a matter that he expressed deep concern over.
He directed traffic police personnel to seize dumpers and private buses if they are repeatedly found violating traffic rules.
The training program, conducted over 18 sessions between February 23 and May 10, provided traffic police personnel with guidance from various experts.
Traffic Police to Be Fully Deployed During Monsoon
Reflecting on last year’s monsoon, when waterlogging and tree fall incidents led to severe traffic congestion, the Commissioner announced that this year traffic police will be deployed in full force across the city during the rainy season. He urged coordination with municipal teams and emphasized night and emergency deployments to ensure smoother traffic flow and avoid previous year’s issues.
