Pune: Separate blow pipe to be used for each breathalyzer test; special drive launched against drunk and drive
Pune: A special drive will be conducted against ‘drunk and drive’ violations on the New Year eve (December 31). Suspicious vehicle drivers, riders will undergo a breathalyzer test, for which a separate ‘use and throw’ blow pipe will be used for each individual.
Action against ‘drunk and drive’ was slowed down during the Coronavirus pandemic. A person undergoing the breathalyzer test had to blow a pipe, during which there was a danger of an infection. Therefore, the test was banned. As a result, less drunk and drive cases were registered during the pandemic years. But the Traffic Division has now started taking action ahead of New year.
Vehicle drivers, riders getting drunk and driving will invite action on December 31. A separate blow pipe will be used for each person undergoing the test. The police have appealed to citizens to not get drunk and drive. Action will be taken against violators.
Action was taken against 5,256 vehicle drivers/riders till date during 2024. In December 549 people faced action. The highest number of violators were penalised in October.
