Pune: Former MLC and MPCC Vice-President Mohan Joshi has warned of an agitation over the Shivajinagar Bus Stand. He said, “The Shivajinagar Bus Stand should be shifted to its original location within 15 days considering convenience of passengers and traffic safety, failing which Chief Minister’s convoy will be blocked.”

An agitation led by Mohan Joshi was launched in front of the MSRTC Divisional Office on October 2023 to press for the demand. In November 2023, the State Government announced that the Chhatrapati Shivajinagar Bus Stand will be rebuilt by the MahaMetro at its original place. The decision followed the agitation by the Congress. It is almost a year now but there is no action to shift the ST stand. Therefore, the Congress has decided to block the cavalcade of the Chief Minister, who also looks after the portfolio of the Transport Ministry, stated a release issued by Joshi.

The Shivajinagar Bus Stand was shifted for the MahaMetro work in 2019. It was moved to a location on the old Mumbai-Pune highway, which added to traffic woes. Since it was a temporary measure, commuters tolerated it. The MahaMetro work was over two years ago, but the ST stand was not shifted. Commuters are unnecessarily forced to face hardships. The makeshift stand remains flooded during the rainy season. Patience of commuters are being tested, said Joshi.
