Pune: Shivajinagar Police Bust Illegal Steroid Racket, Two Arrested with Banned Injections

Pune:
In a crackdown on the illegal sale of steroid injections, Shivajinagar Police arrested two individuals for selling banned steroid injections to gym-goers in the city. The injections, containing mephentermine sulphate, were often being taken by gym-goers to improve their physique. In this regard, police have seized 14 steroid injections worth Rs 5,000 from the accused and registered a case against them.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Shivajinagar Police Station, led by Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant, apprehended the accused. The arrested individuals have been identified as Deepak Baburao Wadekar (age 32, a resident of Khadki) and Sajan Anna Jadhav (age 25, a resident of Aundh). Police constable Tejas Ramesh Chopde filed the formal complaint in the matter.
According to the police, the accused were caught red-handed while parked in a car near Irani Vasti in Narveer Tanaji Wadi, allegedly carrying the illegal steroid injections. Upon being questioned, the duo failed to produce purchase bills or legal documentation for the injections.
Despite being aware of the severe health risks and even life-threatening consequences of these drugs, the accused were illegally in possession of them with the intent to sell. Police suspect the injections were being targeted at young gym-goers eager for quick physical transformations.
The police have registered a case against the duo for illegal possession and intent to misuse controlled substances. Authorities are now probing the source of the banned drugs, potential buyers, and the possibility of a larger network involved in distributing such injections in the city.
