Pune Shocker: Man Rapes Woman, Blackmails Her with Video, Extorts ₹17 Lakh; Accused Arrested
In a disturbing case from Pune, a 34-year-old man, Sudhir Arjun Patil, has been arrested by Bharati Vidyapeeth Police for allegedly raping a woman while she was asleep, recording the act, and using the video to blackmail and extort her over several years. The survivor filed a complaint detailing mental, physical, and financial abuse spanning nearly four years.
According to police, the incident dates back to August 12, 2021, when the woman was living with Sudhir Patil in Ambegaon Khurd. Around 1 AM, while she was asleep, he raped her and recorded the act on his phone. He then repeatedly threatened to leak the video online and forcibly raped her multiple times. Over time, he allegedly extorted a total of ₹16.84 lakh, including ₹11.09 lakh in cash and ₹5.75 lakh through online payments, causing severe emotional and financial distress.
In a twist, Sudhir Patil later filed a counter-complaint, stating that on May 27, 2025, the woman accompanied by four others broke into his residence at Shantai Heights, Sinhagad Campus, Ambegaon Budruk. They allegedly assaulted him, stole ₹85,000 via PhonePe from his bank account, and snatched ₹42,000 in cash from his office bag. They also forcibly took his laptop and a bag containing important documents.
The woman and her associates also allegedly demanded more money and physically assaulted him and his father when they refused. Cases have been registered against five individuals, and further investigation is being led by Assistant Police Inspectors Thorat and Pardeshi.
