Pune: Six held, valuables worth Rs 5.25 lakh seized in raid on IPL betting gang

Pune: The Anti-Goon Squad of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police raided a gang involved in betting on IPL matches through social media, arrested six people and confiscated 18 mobile phones, four laptops and other valuables valued at Rs 5,20,610.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ankush Yashwant Kushwaha (29), resident of Hinjawadi, Vikram Lalit Jha (25), Vikas Govind Pardhi (24), Ayush Kumar Jha (26), Gaurav Shivram Thengri (26) and Premkumar Ishwardas Rajwani (52), resident of Jabalpur, MP. Their accomplice Mohit has also been booked. They came to the city to accept bets on IPL matches and hail from various cities and states in the country. They were accepting bets for the past 15 days.

The Anti-Goon Squad’s policeman Ganesh Medge lodged a complaint at the Hinjawadi Police Station. According to the police, an IPL match was played between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday (April 22). The squad received a tip-off that betting was being accepted on the match at a flat in Blue Ridge housing society. The police raided the flat at 9.45 pm. They found five people were accepting bets on their mobile phones. They were using SIM cards and a bank account registered in some other persons’ name to cheat and were using social media apps such as ‘Cricline’, ‘Cricket Live Line’ and ‘CricBuzz’. Four laptops, 18 mobile phones and other valuables worth Rs 5,20,610 were seized from their possession. API Somnath Panchal was investigating the case.
