Pune: There was a speed limit of 65 kmph as a safety measure from 2008 on the Pune-Daund railway route due to ‘2 turn out’ near the Loni Railway Station. This was affecting train traffic. The railway administration recently removed the ‘2 turn outs’.

Moreover, the tough OHE work at the same place was also cleared. As a result, trains can travel at a speed of 130 kmph through the section. This has saved at least 5-7 minutes of travel time for passengers.

There was a danger of accidents at the place due to ‘2 turn out’ on the route from Loni to Daund. Therefore, the railway administration decided to slow down the speed of trains passing through the section as a safety measure. At that time, the train speed on the route was 110 kmph. However, 65 kmph speed in the section was temporary but it continued for many years.

It was decided to change the place of ‘2 turn out’ in 2017-18. It was approved also. But the work was not completed due to some reasons. DRM Indu Dubey recently directed to complete the work, which was done within eight days, increasing the speed of trains passing through the section. It will benefit passengers.

QUOTE

“Necessary works to increase train speed have been done. Thus, the earlier speed restriction has been removed. Now, speed of trains has increased. Passengers will benefit.”
