Pune: Success for agitating MPSC aspirants, prelims postponed
Pune: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has decided to postpone the state services preliminary examination scheduled to be held on August 25. It was clashing with the IBPS exam.
Lakhs of aspirants are preparing for both exams. Many of them corresponded with the MPSC to postpone the prelims but the commission initially rejected their demand. Later, they started agitating over the issue. The MPSC held a meeting to consider their demand on Thursday (August 22) and decided to postpone the state services preliminary exams. A new date of the exam will be declared soon.
The agitation was launched on Tuesday night in the city. Some MVA leaders joined the agitation. Then the government started moving. DyCM Devendra Fadnavis requested the MPSC chairperson to consider candidates’ demand on Wednesday. Thus, the commission called a meeting at 10 am on Thursday and decided to postpone the preliminary exam.
NCP (SP) leaders MP Supriya Sule, MLA Rohit Pawar and Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar visited the agitators and supported them. Rohit Pawar camped with them the entire night. Sharad Pawar himself threatened to join the agitation if the government failed to consider the demand.
The MPSC’s state services preliminary exam and the IBPS exam for various posts in the bank sector clashed. They were scheduled to be held on Sunday (August 25). Lakhs of students have been preparing for both exams for the past one year.
The MPSC has already rescheduled the prelim exam from time to time due to the Lok Sabha polls and for other reasons. Finally, it was scheduled for August 25. But many aspirants were faced with the dilemma of skipping one of the exams. Therefore, they demanded that the prelims should be deferred.
