Pune: Suspects in Manchar murder case held within five hours after lodging of complaint

Pune: A handicapped person identified as Ganesh Ravindra Sonawane (28) was killed at a paan stall near the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya in Manchar, taluka Ambegaon on Tuesday (April 29).

The Manchar Police arrested the accused within five hours after a complaint was lodged. The accused have been identified as Siddhesh Santosh Renke (19) and his accomplice Vighnesh Ashok Shewale (20), both residents of Manchar.

Ghodegaon Court JMFC SS Pulunjkar directed both accused to be sent to police custody till May 3.

The murder shocked residents as it was committed in a busy area, where the Manchar Police Station, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya and Annasaheb Awate College are located.

Paan stall owner API Laxman Kisanrao Shete (retd) lodged a complaint in this connection. Sr PI Shrikant Kankal and Deputy PSI Sanil Dhanve immediately visited the spot and conducted a panchnama.

Associations of handicapped people warned to launch an agitation to demand immediate arrest of the suspects. In this backdrop, Pune Rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh, Addl SP Ramesh Chopade, SDPO Amol Mandve and Sr PI Shrikant Kankal guided the investigation. API Sunil Badgujar, PSI Sanil Dhanve and a team of police personnel were in search of the suspects.

IO Dhanve said, “We detained Renke and Shewale. They had a verbal fight with the victim while consuming liquor. Renke broke the liquor bottle and attacked Sonawane, who was injured seriously and died on the spot.”
