Pune: Teenage Girl Alleges Forced Marriage; Khadki Police Register Case Against Six

Pune: A 17-year-old girl lodged a police complaint at Khadki police station that, despite being underage, her parents had forcefully married her to the man. This incident took place between March 3 and June 30, 2023, in Wafgaon Takalkarwadi. In this regard, Khadki police have registered a case against six people.

Khadki police registered a case under the Child Marriage Act and the Atrocities Act against Mina Rajesh Irle (age 40), Rajesh Irle (age 42), a resident of Pimple Gurav, Shobha Navgire (age 55), a resident of Yashwant Nagar, Yerawada, Sangita Ranjit Gaikwad (age 50), a resident of Bopodi, husband Ganesh Takalkar (age 24), and Sanjay Takalkar (age 55), both residents of Wafgaon Takalkarwadi, Taluka Khed.

As per the police information, the complainant is a minor girl. In spite of having a clear idea of her being juvenile, her parents and her grandmother took her to the Wafgaon Takalkarwadi village in Khed Taluka and married her to a 24-year-old man, Ganesh Takalkar.

As per the complaint filed by the minor, her husband kept physical relations with her against her wishes. Further, he also abused her over her caste and assaulted her multiple times. Accordingly, police registered a case under the Child Marriage Act and the Atrocities Act against the accused. Assistant police inspector Deshmane is conducting further investigation into the case.
