Pune:
Anticipating massive crowds gathering on New Year’s Eve at Mahatma Gandhi Road in Lashkar and the Deccan area, the Pune Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic arrangements. The measures, which will come into effect from 5 PM on December 31 and last until the congestion subsides, aim to manage the surge in vehicle traffic and prevent bottlenecks.

To ensure smoother traffic flow, vehicles heading towards Ferguson College Road from Kothrud or Karve Road will face restrictions at Khandoji Baba Chowk. Instead, these vehicles will be rerouted through Law College Road, Prabhat Road, and Alka Talkies Chowk.

Similarly, traffic on Jangli Maharaj Road heading from Khandoji Baba Chowk, Goodluck Chowk, or adjacent lanes towards Ferguson College Road may be blocked at Jhansi Rani Chowk as required. These vehicles will be diverted via the Pune Municipal Corporation office, Omkareshwar Temple, and Shivaji Road.

Similarly, the Mahatma Gandhi Road will also see strict traffic restrictions. Vehicles traveling from Y Junction towards Mahatma Gandhi Road will be stopped at 15th August Chowk and rerouted towards Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.

Traffic heading from ISKCON Mandir Chowk to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue or Aurora Tower will be halted, while vehicles from Volga Chowk to Mohammad Rafi Chowk will be diverted directly to Indira Gandhi Chowk via East Street Road.

Additionally, traffic from Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahavir Chowk will be redirected via Lashkar Police Station, while those heading from Sharbatwala Chowk to Mahavir Chowk will be rerouted via Tabut Street.

No-Vehicle Zones Announced for Key Roads

From 5 PM on December 31 to 5 AM on January 1, two major stretches will be designated as no-vehicle zones:

Ferguson College Road, from Goodluck Chowk to Ferguson College Main Gate.
Mahatma Gandhi Road, from 15th August Chowk to Hotel Aurora Tower.

These restrictions aim to ensure ease of movement for people in the area.

Heavy Vehicles Banned in City Limits

To further reduce traffic congestion, the entry of all heavy vehicles, including trucks, dumpers, mixers, and multi-axle vehicles, will be prohibited within city limits from December 31 to January 1. Drivers of such vehicles are advised to use alternate routes to reach their destinations.

Further, the restricted zones for vehicles include Theur Phata, Loni Kalbhor, Harris Bridge, Khadki Bopkhel Phata, Vishrantwadi Radha Chowk, Baner, Navale Bridge, Warje, Katraj Chowk, Kondhwa Mantarwadi Phata, and Fursungi Markal Bridge.
