Pune :
Three men from Baramati who were arrested in an assault case against the restaurant owner for not giving free biryani have been sentenced to imprisonment until Tuesday (March 25) since the date of their arrest and fined Rs 1 lakh each under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The verdict was delivered by Judge P.P. Jadhav of the Maharashtra Organised Crime Control Court.

Since the accused have already spent their sentence duration in jail since their arrest, they are now required to pay the imposed fine. If they fail to do so, they will have to serve an additional three months in prison.

The individuals convicted in the case have been identified as Kishor alias Dabar Sanjay Dhore (31), Abhijit alias Chota Dabar Anil Dhavre (25), and Rahul Baburao Dhavre (29). They had been in custody since January 22, 2019. As per the court’s ruling, failure to pay the Rs 1 lakh fine will result in an extension of their imprisonment by three more months.

The case dates back to 2018, when the trio was booked by Baramati City Police for assaulting a restaurant owner and robbing him. The dispute arose when the accused demanded free biryani and cash from the restaurant owner. When their demand was denied, they attacked the hotel owner and forcibly took money from his pocket.

Following the incident, the then Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Narayan Shirgaonkar, led the investigation into the case. The case was presented in court under the supervision of Court Pleader Prakash Waghmare, Pleader Amaldar Vidyadhar Nicheet, Baramati City Police Inspector Vilas Nale, and District Court Pleader Officer Police Inspector Santosh Gholve.
