Pune Traffic Police Crack Down on Chronic Traffic Offenders; Collected Fine of 3.18 crore

Pune: In a recent crackdown, Pune traffic police have unearthed alarming statistics about the widespread disregard for traffic rules in the city. Shockingly, two vehicle owners have accumulated fines that exceed the value of their bikes, highlighting the extent of traffic violations.
In a detailed investigation, the Pune traffic police found that one vehicle had been penalised 154 times, while another had racked up 130 violations. This egregious behaviour is part of a larger pattern, as the investigation revealed that 21 vehicles have been fined over 100 times, and 988 vehicles have faced more than 50 penalties each. These infractions have collectively resulted in fines amounting to Rs 3.18 crore.
The traffic branch of the Pune Police has initiated stringent measures to curb this rampant rule-breaking. They have started impounding vehicles that consistently violate traffic regulations. So far, 44 vehicles have been seized under this operation. Each traffic police department has been tasked with the responsibility to identify and act against repeat offenders.
In addition to impounding vehicles, the police are taking stern action against private transporters and drivers who have violated traffic rules more than 100 and 50 times, respectively, and have failed to pay their fines. The permits of these habitual offenders will be cancelled. For individual vehicle owners, non-payment of fines will lead to the cancellation of their vehicle licenses.
The police have also announced plans to intensify actions against specific infractions, such as riding with triple seats, talking on the phone while driving, and driving in the opposite direction. These actions are crucial, as such behaviours are major contributors to traffic jams and accidents in the city.
