Pune: Transgender Person Lured via Social Networking App, Robbed of Gold Chain Worth Rs 42 Thousand at Knifepoint

After last week’s incident, where a transgender individual was looted after being acquainted with him on social media, another similar incident took place near Hadapsar Railway Station. In the latest incident, the individual called a transgender person to meet through a social networking app and then snatched his gold chain by threatening to kill him.

In this regard, a 24-year-old individual lodged a police complaint at Mundhwa Police Station. Accordingly, the police have registered cases on two people. This incident took place on January 23 at 9 p.m. in an open space in Mundhwa, opposite Laxmi Lawns near Hadapsar Railway Station.

As per the police information, the plaintiff met a young man named Bapu on the social networking site Grindr. After that, the accused called him to meet in an open space in Mundhwa. When the plaintiff went there, two accused threatened to kill him, forcibly removed a gold chain worth Rs 42,000 from his neck, and fled in the darkness.

Initially, the plaintiff did not register a complaint, fearing disrepute. However, he finally gathered courage and lodged a police complaint in this regard.

Police informed that a few individuals run a racket of looting people using the same method. They initially contact people on Grindr, a social networking app for transgender people. Then, after taking advantage of contact, they call people to meet in the Sinhagad Road area and loot them by threatening. They rob individuals of their belongings and transfer the online amount from their Google Pay and Phone Pe accounts.

In an earlier incident, police detained one gang after a message regarding this went viral on social media. Assistant Police Inspector R.V. Mahanor is conducting further investigation into the case.
