Pune: Two Arrested in Shirur for Carrying Country-Made Pistols; Illegal Arms Sourced from Madhya Pradesh

Pune: In a significant action, the Shirur police have cracked down against two individuals who were roaming in public places by keeping country-made pistols to their waist, seizing 5 pistols and 4 live cartridges from them. Police learnt that these two accused brought these firearms from Madhya Pradesh.

The Shirur police arrested Aniket Vilas Gavhane (age 20, a resident of Gavhanwadi, Taluka Shrigonda, District Ahmadnagar) and Mangesh Dadabhau Khupte (age 20, a resident of Jawala, Taluka Parner, District Ahmadnagar). The accused confessed that they brought these five pistols from Madhya Pradesh, thinking that selling these pistols would fetch them good money. Notably, there has already been a complaint registered against Aniket Gavhane in Belwandi police station.

Police Inspector Sandesh Kenjale received information that two people were walking around with a pistol on their waist near The Spot Nana Hotel, which is located along the bypass road near Shirur. Accordingly, Shirur Police caught both of them. Subsequently, police found two pistols and two live cartridges on the waist of Aniket Gavane, while three pistols and two live cartridges were on the waist of Mangesh Khupte.

While informing about the action, the Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Deshmukh, said that in September 2024, the Local Crime Branch of police took action against country-made pistol holders and sellers with the help of Shirur Police Station, Shikrapur Police Station, Walchand Nagar Police Station, Yawat Police Station, and Haveli Police Station. In this, police seized a total of 17 pistols and 29 live cartridges from the accused.

This action was taken by the team of Police Inspector of Shirur Police Station Sandesh Kenjale, Assistant Police Inspector Hanmantrao Giri, Police Ammaldar Nathsaheb Jagtap, Vinod More, Vijay Shinde, Parashuram Sangle, Niraj Pisal, Nikhil Rawde, Radhunath Halnor, Nitesh Thorat, and Sachin Bhoi under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde, and Sub Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dhole.
