Pune:

Wagholi police have apprehended two brothers accused of making casteist remarks against a girl and threatening to tarnish her reputation if she refused to elope with one of them.

The names of the arrested individuals are Gajanan Santosh Aadhav (age 25) and Gopal Santosh Aadhav (age 31), both residents of Awhalwadi, Taluka Haveli. In this regard, a 20-year-old girl lodged a police complaint at Wagholi Police Station.

This incident took place between November 1 and December 22 this year.

The plaintiff is studying at a college. As per the police complaint, the accused, Gajanan Aadhav, would always look at the plaintiff while she was going to the college and make obscene gestures to cause her embarrassment. After some time, the accused sent a text message on the plaintiff’s mobile phone, saying, “Come with me, or I won’t leave you worthy of showing your face to anybody. I will cut your brother into pieces if you don’t come with me,” and brazenly abused her over her caste.

When the plaintiff checked the mobile number on the ‘Truecaller’ app, she found that the mobile number is registered in the name of the accused, Gajanan Aadhav. Initially, the plaintiff ignored it. However, a few days ago, the accused Gajanan Aadhav’s brother, Gopal Aadhav, texted her on a mobile number and threatened to kill her family members and again abused her.

Finally, the Wagholi police registered a case against both the accused brothers under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and Police Sub-Inspector Vishnu Deshmukh is investigating further in this case.
