Pune: Two cops dismissed for helping the escape of drug mafia Lalit Patil
Pune: A major action has been taken in the drug mafia Lalit Patil escape case after 6-7 months. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has issued the dismissal order of two policemen from the Pune City Police Force.
Some police officials and personnel were suspended in the matter. Two of them have been dismissed after they were found guilty in the inquiry. As many as 15 people, including staffers from the Sassoon Hospital and policemen, have been charge-sheeted in this connection. The Crime Branch has filed the charge sheet of 3,150 pages in the court.
The dismissed policemen have been identified as Adesh Shivankar and Pirappa Bansode. They have been charged with helping the escape of drug mafia Lalit Patil. They have been removed from government service. Patil was undergoing treatment in the Sassoon Hospital and then escaped. Later, he was arrested.
Shocking details emerge in the probe
Lalit Patil was brought to the Sassoon Hospital for an X-ray test. He escaped from there, which was reported to the control room after three hours. Holding Shivankar and Bansode responsible for the lapse, they have been removed from the service.
The probe revealed that the two dismissed policemen did not accompany Patil to the X-ray department. Moreover, if they had reported the escape earlier, Patil could have been nabbed. But they did not report it to their senior officials and the control room, which helped Patil to escape. This was confirmed during the investigation.
