Pune: Two Fergusson College Students Drown in Mulshi Lake; Police Investigation Underway

Pune:
In a tragic incident, two students from Fergusson College lost their lives after drowning in a lake at Khamboli, Mulshi taluka, on Sunday, October 20. The deceased have been identified as Ojas Anand Kathapurkar (age 22, a resident of Nigdi Pradhikaran, Pune) and Raj Sambhaji Patil (age 22, a resident of Amalner, Jalgaon).
According to police reports, a group of nine students, including Adesh Rajendra Bhide, Sumedh Satish Joshi, Prashant Sambhaji Aargade, Tejaswini Sahebrao Pawar, Nidhi Satyanarayan Haldandkar, Trupti Chandrakant Deshmukh, Chaitanya Jayant Kamble, Ojas Anand Kathapurkar, and Raj Sambhaji Patil, had visited Mulshi for a trip on Sunday. At that time, the group decided to swim in the lake near Khamboli when the tragedy struck.
Ojas and Raj reportedly got trapped in the lake’s silt after underestimating the water’s depth. The other students attempted to rescue Ojas but were unable to pull him out in time. Ojas was then rushed to a nearby doctor for treatment but was declared dead on arrival.
Despite repeated efforts, the group was unable to locate Raj. It was only after the fire brigade team joined the search that Raj’s body was found in the lake. Both bodies were later sent to Paud Rural Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector Santosh Girigosavi from Paud Police Station visited the incident site and inspected the place while Police Constable Ravindra Nagtilak, Ishwar Kale, Amol Suryawanshi, fire brigade personnel, and local villagers assisted in recovering the bodies. The Paud police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
