Pune: Two women duped a businessman and another woman of Rs 15.70 lakh by promising huge profits in share trading, IPL betting and horse races.

The 36-year-old businessman from Mangalwar Peth lodged a complaint at the Samarth Police Station. Four persons have been booked in this regard.

The accused have been identified as Pallavi Gosavi (32), her mother Kiran Gosavi (53), both residents of Mangalwar Peth, their partner Arshad Shaikh (38), resident of Daund, and Prasad Vishwanath Kamble (39), resident of Somwar Peth.

The incident took place at an office at Narpatgiri Chowk between November 24, 2023 and May 12, 2024. According to the police, the complainant is a stamp vendor. He got to know Pallavi Gosavi and Kiran Gosavi through business dealings. Pallavi Gosavi is a finance consultant. She told the complainant that he could make huge profits in share trading, IPL betting and horse races. Initially, the two women asked him to invest Rs 2 lakh on November 24, 2023. They made false promises to him that he would get around Rs 32 lakh profit by December 2024.

The complainant fell into their trap and invested Rs 6 lakh in November 2023. Pallavi Gosavi took totally Rs 19.80 lakh from him in 2024. However, she neither made him a partner in any business and not paid any profit. When the complainant insisted, he was given a cheque of Rs 12 lakh dated May 12, 2024. He was told to deposit it after eight days in the bank.

At the same time Pallavi Gosavi gave him Rs 6 lakh. When he was about to deposit the cheque in the bank after eight days, he got a call from Pallavi Gosavi that he should not encash the cheque and told him to deposit it in August and promised to pay Rs 40 lakh then.

The complainant went to meet Pallavi Gosavi in August 2024 but she avoided him. Finally, he deposited the cheque in the bank in August. However, it bounced. Then he again went to meet Pallavi Gosavi but she showed him the door. Her partner Arshad Shaikh told him that his payment was being processed and he would get his money.

Kamble also met the complainant from time to time and told him that he was responsible to refund him the money.

The accused also duped another woman from Mangalwal Peth of Rs 2.40 lakh. Thus, they cheated the two persons of Rs 15.70 lakh. PSI Patil was investigating the case.
