Pune: Maharashtra is currently immersed in the divinity of Aashadhi Ekadashi and Wari celebrations. However, a tragic incident has cast a shadow over the festivities. Two days ago, during the Vaari, Kamal Sopanrao Borkar, a 65-year-old warkari woman participating in the Sant Tukaram Maharaj palanquin ceremony, died of a heart attack on Monday, July 15, at Tondle-Bondle village near Akluj. Her sudden demise, just two days before Aashadhi Ekadashi, has left her family and colleagues in deep grief.

Originally from Narayanpur, the Borkar family has been residing in Hadapsar for many years due to their jobs and children’s education. Kamal Borkar was an active participant in the foot procession from Satsang Dindi No. 22 of the Palkhi ceremony and had been involved in the Vaari for the last fifteen years.

Kamal Borkar is the president of Sri Gurudatta Bhajani Mandal, where her bhajan mandal performs bhajan services at various religious programs. Every year, her bhajan group provided bhajan services at the Palkhi rest place in Hadapsar. This year also, she took part in the Dindi ceremony.

Her colleagues in the Hadapsar area have expressed profound sorrow over her unexpected passing. Kamal Borkar is survived by her husband, son, daughter, and grandchildren.
