A woman killed her two-month-old twin test tube baby boys by drowning them in a plastic tank installed on the terrace of the building she lived in. Apparently, she was upset that the babies did not have a normal growth. She also tried to end her life.
The incident took place at Kakade Vasti hamlet in the Datta Nagar area at Theur at 6.45 am on Tuesday (April 8). The woman’s brother lodged a complaint at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station. The 35-year-old woman has been booked for murder.
According to the police, the accused is married to a primary teacher. She is a resident of Mirajwadi, Ashta in Sangli district. Since the couple did not have an issue even after 10 years of marriage, they opted for the test tube baby method.
The accused was at her parent’s house at Datta Nagar. She gave birth to twin baby boys. However, their growth was not taking place properly. The woman also became very weak after the delivery and had some ailment. She was stressed as a lot of money had to be spent on the twin boys and they were not even growing normally.
On Tuesday, she took the babies to the terrace, drowned them in the plastic water storage tank and she herself jumped into the tank to end life. Her neighbours noticed this and alerted the police control room. The police rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. However, they could not save the babies. A murder offence was registered against her. PSI Ratnadeep Birajdar was investigating the case.
