Pune: Yerawada Police Booked Doctor and His Family for Bigamy and Dowry Harassment After Court’s Order in Pune

Pune :
The Yerawada police have registered a case against a doctor and his family for allegedly deceiving a woman by marrying her while concealing his first marriage. The action follows a private criminal complaint filed by the victim in the Bombay High Court through her legal counsel. Based on court directives, the police initiated legal proceedings against the accused.
According to the complaint, the doctor was already married but had been living separately from his first wife due to disputes between them. Despite not getting a formal divorce, the doctor married the complainant in December 2016, concealing his first marriage. However, soon after their marriage, the doctor and his family allegedly started harassing the plaintiff, subjecting her to both emotional and financial distress.
The woman complained that initially her husband coerced her into giving him Rs 3 lakh for a car. Later, his family started pressuring her to bring an additional 50 lakh rupees from her parents for their new house. Notably, when the plaintiff resisted the demands of additional money from her parents, the doctor threatened her by informing her that he had neither formally married the plaintiff nor had he legally divorced his first wife.
Feeling deceived and distressed, the woman then approached the High Court through her advocate, Satya, in this case. The court took cognisance of her plea and directed the police to register a case against the doctor and his family. Following the court’s order, the Yerawada police booked the doctor and his family under relevant sections of the law. Further investigations are underway in this case.
