Pune: Bickering in the party came to the fore in the NCP (AP) after the Governor nominated seven members to the State Legislative Council and reappointed party leader Rupali Chakankar as the Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission.

NCP (AP) City Unit President Deepak Mankar openly expressed his displeasure as his name did not figure in the list of Governor-nominated members of the State Legislative Council. Mankar called a get-together of workers and office-bearers, for which 600 workers were present. The office-bearers collectively resigned from their positions to express their solidarity with Mankar. Later, he addressed a press meet.

Mankar said, “Party President Ajitdada Pawar promised us when our party workers insisted on my name as the MLC recently. Dada assured us that it was his responsibility. However, when the list was announced, my name did not appear in it. I want to know from my party leadership what went wrong. They declared the names without consulting us.

“It is not in my nature to complain to the leadership about anything. My workers, office-bearers have resigned. I will always support Dada. But I will quit my position. I will continue to be a party worker.”

‘Why didn’t Tatkare call us up?’

Mankar said, “Our State President Sunil Tatkare is so prompt that he first declared the reappointment of Rupali Chakankar as the Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission and then announced the list of the newly appointed MLCs. Why didn’t he show such promptness with us? You were not prompt enough to call us up.

“You should have, at least, consulted party workers. The party organisation is based on them. Justice should be done to workers. You want to award all posts to Chhagan Bhujbal. When will you empower party workers?”
