Pune: Youth attacking builder with axe gets 10-year rigorous imprisonment

Pune: Two persons attacked a builder with an axe and tried to kill him during the collection of donations (Vargani) for the Ganeshotsav. Additional Sessions Judge PP Jadhav convicted one of the two accused and sentenced him to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on him.
The convict has been identified as Jeevan Suresh Pawar (20), a resident of Uttam Nagar. Developer Chandrakant Ramchandra More (44), a resident of Vadgaon Budruk, had lodged a complaint at the Uttam Nagar Police Station in this regard. An offence was registered against Pawar and his minor brother.
The incident took place in Shivane on September 1, 2020. Builder More was undertaking a construction project in the area. Ganesh mandal workers visited More and demanded Vargani, which led to an argument between him and the workers.
The accused hit More in his head with an axe and a stone. He was injured seriously in the attack. Adv Namdeo Taralgatti represented the prosecution in the case. The then Senior PI attached with the Uttam Nagar Police Station Mohan Khandare, PI Arjun Botre, API Chavare, police personnel Vinayak Karajavane and Priyanka Raskar assisted during the trial. The court examined the witnesses and evidence and convicted the accused and sentenced him to 10-year RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
