Mumbai: The Maha Yuti government on Monday (October 14) took an important decision shortly ahead of the State elections announcement. Toll has been waived for vehicles entering Mumbai through the five toll booths.

MNS President Raj Thackeray welcomed the decision. He said that the government should ensure that the decision was not taken for the sake of winning votes.

He commented on the decision on social media. Raj Thackeray’s post stated: ‘Light vehicles entering Mumbai will be exempted from paying the toll at the five booths from midnight today. I congratulate all citizens living within the MMR and my Maharashtra sainiks. The toll process should be transparent. All such roads, where their building costs have been recovered, should be made toll-free. Maharashtra sainiks have struggled hard to get this demand sanctioned.

‘We were criticised for vandalising toll booths. But the government machinery does not understand the seriousness of an issue till one takes an extreme view. Anyway… I am happy that at least, the Mumbaikars have become toll-free. This is a moderate success of our agitation. I congratulate the government for the decision. However, the government has to ensure that the decision has not been taken to garner votes.

‘There is no account of money that some people minted before this decision was taken. An impartial inquiry should be launched into this. But I am not sure whether it will ever take place. Because who will arrest whom? Anyway, the Mumbaikars have been freed from the toll burden.

‘Maharashtra sainiks should proudly declare the outcome of our anti-toll agitation. You should give the example of Mumbai becoming toll-free. Do not forget that if you decide something, you take it to its logical conclusion. Congratulations, once again!’
