Record 556-mm rainfall in Tamhini, one dies in landslide, Tamhini-Kolad Road blocked

Mulshi: One person died in a landslide in the Tamhini Ghat area near Mulshi Dam at Aadarwadi at around 2.30 am on Thursday. The landslide blocked the Tamhini-Kolad Road. A very heavy rainfall of 556 mm was recorded in the area on Wednesday.

The victim was at a hotel near the roadside, which was buried under the debris. One person was hurt in the incident. The administration was trying to clear the road for traffic.

Roads have been blocked at several places in the ghat section due to tree collapses. The landslide took place at around 2.30 am on Thursday at Aadarwadi, taluka Mulshi. The debris was spread over 500 metres on the road. The roadside Picnic Hotel was buried under it.

Neighbouring hotel workers rescued two persons from the debris. However, one of them, Shivaji Motiram Bahirat (30), died. The blocked road was being cleared on a war-footing. It could take several hours to clear the road of the debris. SDO Surendra Navale, Tehsildar Ranjit Bhosale and PI Manojkumar Yadav are trying to get emergency help.
