Renowned Filmmaker Nagraj Manjule Chosen for This Year’s Mahatma Phule Samata Puraskar

The prestigious ‘Mahatma Phule Samata Puraskar’, which was given every year by the Akhil Bhartiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad on the death anniversary of Mahatma Phule, has announced this year’s awardee. This year, the award will be given to renowned writer, director, and actor Nagraj Manjule.

The award ceremony will be held at Samata Bhoomi in Phule Wada on Thursday (November 28) at 10.30 a.m. under the presidency of the National President of Akhil Bharatiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad and MLA Chhagan Bhujbal. This information was given by the Pune Divisional President of Akhil Bharatiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad, Pritesh Gawali, City President Pandharinath Bankar, and Women City President Vaishnavi Satav.

The award consists of Rs. one lakh, a Phule turban, a certificate of honour, a shawl, and a memento.
This year, Nagraj Manjule has been selected for this award. Through his work in the film industry, Nagraj Manjule has presented the social legacy of great men like Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai Phule, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. For his remarkable contribution towards society through films, Manjule will be awarded with this award.

Nagraj Manjule started his film career as a director with the short film ‘Pistulya’, for which he also received the National Film Award in the non-feature film category. After that, films such as Fandry, Sairat, Pavasacha Nibandh, Jhund, etc. that were directed by him became popular among people. Manjule has also produced and written many of these films.

His excellent acting skills were seen in films such as Naal, Naal 2, Taar, and Ghar Bandook Biryani. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Director of 2017 film for Sairat. He was also being awarded by the Maharashtra Government’s Chitrapati V. Shantaram Special Contribution Award 2022.
