Sharad Pawar reacts to Rashmi Shukla’s transfer
Pune: The opposition was demanding DGP Rashmi Shukla’s transfer after the announcement of the State Assembly elections. The Election Commission (EC) finally issued her transfer order and appointed Vivek Phansalkar in her place.
NCP (SP) President Sharad Pawar reacted to the development. He said, “The EC’s decision is right. Her tenure is over. Many people have been speaking about this publically. Many decisions were taken during her tenure by extending her service. The EC has taken the right decision. Now, she should not be appointed to any post.”
Shukla was transferred barely a couple of weeks before the State Assembly elections. The EC issued an order to this effect. The EC directed the State Chief Secretary to appoint a police officer next to Shukla in seniority. Thus, Phansalkar has been appointed. The Chief Secretary has now directed a panel comprising three senior IPS officers to start the process to select the new DGP.
