Shinde may face Fadnavis-like piquant situation in 2022
Mumbai: There is a tug of war over the Chief Ministership between the BJP and the Shiv Sena (BT) in the State. Caretaker CM Eknath Shinde is trying to capture the power centre again. However, the highest seat-winning BJP has indicated that there would be no compromise on the Chief Minister’s post. It is said that the BJP central leadership is in favour of making Fadnavis the CM.
In this backdrop, the BJP leadership has presented a new proposal to Shinde, which has recreated a 2022-like situation in the State.
The MVA government collapsed after a split in the Shiv Sena in June 2022. Eknath Shinde was named the CM. Fadnavis took the stance that he would not join the government. However, the BJP leadership instructed him to work in the government for its smooth functioning. Thus, Fadnavis, who was a full-term CM earlier, had to accept the DyCM’s post. The same thing is likely to happen with Eknath Shinde. There are such discussions in political circles.
Offer for Eknath Shinde
Eknath Shinde said that he would prefer to stay out of the government if he is not named the new CM. But the BJP leadership does not approve of his stance. Therefore, he will have to accept the DyCM’s post after being the CM for over 2.5 years.
Avoids meeting MLAs
Caretaker CM Eknath Shinde has preferred to keep quiet as the naming of the new CM delays. He is not only staying away from the media but also avoiding meeting MLAs. This has raised doubts about what must be going on in his mind.
