A large number of people came to Pune’s Bhimthadi Jatra to participate and to set up their stalls and counters in the carnival. However, amidst this heavy gathering of people, thieves often committed thefts, misusing the crowd. In one of such incidents, Shivajinagar police have arrested four individuals who stole Rs 71 thousand in cash and a pen drive from the bag of a female stallholder in Pune’s Bhimthadi Jatra.

The names of those arrested are Manoj Bhagatsingh Pawar (age 41), Sandeep Sanjay Gaud (age 32), Ratilal Premlal Parmar (age 55), and Vicky Raju Salunkhe (age 35, all residents of Yeda Chowk, Jamkhed, Ahilya Nagar). In this regard, Bhagyashree Mandar Jadhav (age 28, a resident of Ozarde, Taluka Wai, District Satara) has lodged a complaint at Shivajinagar police station.

This entire incident took place at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Bhimthadi Jatra in Sinchan Nagar. The police have arrested the accused after a thorough examination of CCTV cameras.

According to the information given by the police, the complainant has a stall of a women’s self-help group in the Bhimthadi Jatra. On Sunday, there was a huge crowd at the Jatra. At this time, thieves stole Rs 71,000 in cash from the box kept inside of the plaintiff’s stall.

After realising that her money was stolen by thieves, the plaintiff immediately informed the police about it. The police then watched the CCTV footage at the stall and found that the thieves had stolen the cash from the plaintiff’s purse. Based on that, they caught these thieves who were in the Bhimthadi Jatra.

Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant said that when the on-duty police watched the CCTV footage, they saw the thieves committing theft. Accordingly, they searched for and arrested the thieves. “On Friday, Rs 70,000 in cash was stolen from a woman’s stall at the Bhimthadi Jatra. This woman has a clothing stall. She was showing clothes to customers. At that time, the thieves stole her purse, which was kept in the corner behind the clothes that were hanging on the hanger. There was Rs 70,550 in cash and a pen drive in that purse.” Assistant Police Inspector Savita Sapkale is investigating further in this case.
