The incident took place at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, and the Raigad police have registered a case against eleven individuals. So far, three suspects have been arrested, while eight others remain at large.
The deceased woman has been identified as Jyoti Dhamanaskar (age 34). The police have arrested three accused in connection with the crime: Irappa Dhotre, Akash Gavade, and Vicky Gill. However, eight others, including Akash Uparvat, Neeraj Uparvat, Ashish Sonawane, Anil Mane, Amil Nagur, Sachin Jamadar, Adil Sheikh, and a man known as Tillu, are still on the run. The Raigad police have sent teams to apprehend the absconding suspects.
According to police reports, the group of eleven tourists arrived in Harihareshwar on Saturday. Late that night, they approached Abhijeet Dhamanaskar, the owner of Mamata Home Stay, and demanded a room at a lower rate. When Dhamanaskar refused, an argument ensued between them, escalating into physical violence as the tourists assaulted Dhamanaskar.
Hearing his cries for help, local villagers and Dhamanaskar’s relatives promptly rushed to the scene. At that time, they managed to detain one of the tourists, Irappa Dhotre, while the others fled.
A short while later, the group of tourists returned to Mamata Home Stay in an attempt to rescue their companion. At that time, the driver of the car tried to run over the gathered villagers in anger, but the crowd quickly moved aside to avoid being hit. Unfortunately, Jyoti Dhamanaskar, who was standing nearby, was struck by the car.
In a horrifying act of rage, the driver ran over Jyoti twice, severely injuring her. Despite immediate efforts to rush her to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
After realising they had fatally injured Jyoti, the tourists fled the scene. After that, the local villagers immediately met with Sub-Divisional Police Officer Savita Garje, demanding strict action against the perpetrators. The Raigad police are conducting further investigation into the case.
