Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is preparing for the State Assembly elections. Its confidence has been boosted after success in the Lok Sabha polls. It comprises three partners including the Congress, the NCP and the Shiv Sena (UBT).

There are other smaller parties in the MVA. They are trying to put pressure on other partners over seat-sharing. The CPI has demanded 15 seats from the MVA and has threatened that if their demand is not fulfilled, they may contest the polls on their own.

The party’s national executive met in Nagpur. Senior leaders instructed the state leadership that they should be ready to contest on their own if they do not get enough seats in the MVA.

The CPI has demanded Hingna seat in Nagpur district, Vani and Darvha seats in Yavatmal district, Brahmapuri in Chandrapur district, Shirpur in Dhule district, Shevgaon Pathardi in Ahmednagar district, Sion Koliwada in Mumbai, Bhiwandi in Thane district, Ch. Sambhaji Nagar west and Nashik east seats.

The CPI has held preliminary discussions with senior MVA leaders. Therefore, it remains to be seen if the CPI’s demand is accepted or the party enters the fray independently.
