Two drown to death in separate incidents in Pune

Pune: Two persons drowned to death in the city. A youth entered the river near the Ashtabhuja Mandir in Narayan Peth on Thursday morning. A person drowned in Ambil Odha, which was in spate, while fishing on Thursday evening.

The Mutha river was flooded due to heavy discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam. Crowds gathered to witness the flooded river near the Ashtabhuja Mandir in Narayan Peth. A youth dived into the river. For some moments, he was floating but later he was washed away in the strong river current. Citizens alerted the police about the incident. This was revealed by PI Deepali Bhujbal attached with the Vishrambaug Police Station.

The victim’s identity could not be confirmed. He was probably working at a food stall, which was closed when the police visited the place.

In another incident, a person who went fishing along Ambil Odha near Lake Town drowned at around 6 pm on Thursday. He was identified as Akshay Sandesh Salunke (26), a resident of Upper Indira Nagar, hailing from Sangli. Witnesses revealed this to the Fire Brigade jawan, who could not trace his body due to darkness.
