Ujani Dam which is beneficial for Pune, Solapur and Nagar district reaches it full capacity and filled 100 percent
Pune: The Ujani Dam, serving Pune, Solapur, and Nagar districts, has reached full capacity following heavy rains in the Bhima Valley and Western Ghats. As of Monday morning, water discharge from the dam surged to 180,000 cusecs. To manage potential flood risks, the dam released 100,000 cusecs into the Bhima riverbed at 11 am.
In addition to the Ujani Dam’s discharge, significant volumes of water are also flowing from the Nira River into the Bhima River, causing substantial flooding. The Bhima River, swollen from both sources, has prompted authorities to issue warnings to villages along its banks.
Water is being released through the left and right canals of the Ujani Dam and the Bhima-Sina link canal to control storage levels. Sixteen gates of the dam are open, and at 9 am, 80,000 cusecs were released, increasing to 100,000 cusecs by 11 am due to high water levels.
The merging of Bhima and Nira rivers near Narsinghpur, and subsequent flow towards Pandharpur, raises concerns about potential flooding in the area. Authorities advise vigilance and preparedness in affected regions.
Ujani Dam statistics on 5th August morning are as follows:
Total Storage: 116.29 TMC
Useful Storage: 52.63 TMC (99% full)
Percentage Wise: 98.23 TMC
Daund Discharge: 182,152 cusecs

Raosaheb More, Executive Engineer of Ujani Dam, commented, “In the morning 9 am Ujani Dam filled with 80,000 cusecs due to the dam’s full capacity, we increased the riverbed discharge to 100,000 cusecs at 11 am to manage the situation effectively.”
