Pune: 2 killed, 11 injured as tempo carrying pilgrims to Jejuri meets with accident
Jejuri: Two pilgrims were killed and 11 others were injured when a tempo collided with another tempo on Waghapur-Belsar Road at around 2.30 am on Sunday.
The pilgrims were travelling to the temple town, Jejuri, to join the Shri Khandoba Yatra. The accident was reported by Sagar Dattatraya Totre, a resident of Ambegaon taluka, at the Jejuri Police Station.
According to the Jejuri Police, Sagar Totre, along with his relatives, was travelling to Jejuri for the Somavati Amavasya Yatra in the tempo of his cousin. The vehicle was headed to Jejuri via Belsar from Uruli Kanchan at around 2.30 am on Sunday. Another tempo coming from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle.
Totre’s vehicle driver Jitendra Dnyaneshwar Totre (35), a resident of Ambegaon taluka, and Ashabai Balkrushna Jare (50), a resident of Khed taluka, died in the collision. Among the seriously injured were Mangal Totre, Dnyaneshwar Totre, Rahul Totre, Anushka Totre, Tanaji Totre, Vilas Totre, Balu Totre, Ashwini Totre, Mira Karande, Omkar Karande, and Babaji Karande.
The Jejuri Police rushed to the spot after learning about the incident from local residents and shifted the injured to a private hospital in Jejuri.
The police detained tempo driver Shantaram Bhikoba Pawar (50), a resident of Purandar taluka. PSI Mahesh Patil was conducting further investigation under the guidance of API Deepak Wakchaure.
