Pune: Vehicles will run on 100 pc bioethanol in the country soon. Automobile companies in India will start manufacturing vehicles running on bioethanol in the next six months. Moreover, two-wheelers operated on the fuel will also be introduced in the market. This was revealed by Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday (November 26).

The Minister interacted through video-conferencing with the audience in a programme held on the occasion of Praj Industries Executive President Dr Pramod Chaudhari’s birthday. He said, “I use a Toyota motor car, which runs on ethanol. Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata, and Suzuki will start producing bioethanol-run motor cars in the next six months.

“Moreover, Bajaj, TVS, Honda and Hero firms will manufacture scooters running 100 pc on bioethanol. The Indian economy will benefit a lot if vehicles run 100-pc on ethanol are used. Ethanol is produced in all sugar factories in all talukas of Pune district. This will strengthen the local economy too.

“The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has sent a proposal to allow use of 15 pc ethanol in diesel. Usage of ethanol will increase in the near future and consumption of fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel will reduce. Employment generation will go up locally. It will also make India self-reliant by cutting on mineral oil import.

“Pollution is a very serious issue in Delhi. Pollution caused by vehicles is 40 pc of the total pollution. Biofuel will reduce this pollution. It will also boost the agriculture economy’.”
