Pune: “I am a BJP supporter. I have never personally met Amol Balwadkar, but I am a fan of the work he has done,” said Balewadi resident Sachin Kakade, articulating what many common voters in Ward No. 09 feel today. He added that denying candidature to a tireless grassroots worker amounts to ending politics of performance, and that despite being BJP voters, many residents will stand firmly behind Balwadkar in this election.

Support for Nationalist Congress Party candidate Amol Balwadkar is steadily growing across Ward No. 09 covering Sus, Baner and Pashan. From slum dwellers and middle-class families to young professionals in corporate sectors, a broad spectrum of voters has rallied behind him. Notably, Balwadkar had actively campaigned door-to-door for BJP candidates during Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, contributing to significant vote margins in this ward. However, after he was denied a ticket, even traditional BJP voters appear to have united behind him in the municipal polls.

Several residents from Balewadi-including well-to-do voters who have never met Balwadkar are now voluntarily recording and sharing videos, wishing him victory based solely on his visible work on the ground.

In one such video, Sachin Kakade says, “This is the first time I’m making a video. Amol Balwadkar is contesting from Ward 09. I’ve never met him, but his work is evident. Today, he is the best candidate.” Kakade highlighted Balwadkar’s initiatives during the COVID-19 period, including vaccination arrangements at his office and extensive relief efforts. He also cited steps taken to ease traffic congestion in Balewadi by appointing wardens, festive outreach through the ‘Saranjam Yojana’ during Diwali for migrant workers, efforts to resolve water issues, and improved sanitation across the area.

“I am a BJP volunteer, but this time I will support a worker who is available for citizens 24/7. The same people for whom he worked earlier tried to end his political journey. That’s why we from the corporate world are standing with him,” Kakade said, expressing confidence that Balwadkar would win with a record margin.

Responding to the outpouring of support, Amol Balwadkar said, “This election is now in the hands of the people. While working for the ward, I never counted days or nights I only focused on solving citizens’ problems. The love, support and video messages people are sending today are the real certificates of my work.”

He added, “Your support, blessings and trust give me the strength to fight harder. Rather than thanking you, I prefer to remain indebted to you. Keep sending your video messages your voice is now the true face of this election.”
