Water levels in dams in Pune district increasing rapidly, 20.27 TMC in Khadakwasla chain of reservoirs
Pune: Concerns were expressed about dipping water storages in various dams in the district in June and first three weeks in July. However, rainfall in the past week has filled the reservoirs in the district up to 42.46 pc of their capacity.
The Khadakwasla chain of four dams that supplies water to Pune had 20.27 TMC storage, which is 69.52 pc, at 8 am on Thursday. Following rainfall in the 24 hours from 8 am on Wednesday to 8 am on Thursday, 3.71 TMC water was added to the four dams in the Khadakwasla project.
The four Khadakwasla dams have 20.27 TMC water storage. It was 17.84 TMC (61.19 pc) on July 25 last year. So, the storage is 2.43 TMC i.e. 8.33 pc more as compared to last year.
27.93 storage in Tata Group dams
There are six Tata Group dams in the district. Their total storage capacity is 42.76 TMC. Their current storage is 27.93 TMC or 65.31 pc. These dams include Mulshi, Thokalwadi, Shirota, Walwan and Kundali.
55,000 cusecs discharge from Veer Dam
Over 55,000 cusecs discharge was started into the Nira river from the Veer Dam on Thursday afternoon.
Ujani Dam level increases
The Ujani Dam’s dead storage was completed after 5.67 TMC storage was added on Friday morning. Now, the live storage is expected to be filled, said officials from the Water Resources Department.
Storage in the dams in Pune district
The current total water storage in the 26 dams, excluding the Tata Group dams, is 84.22 TMC. Compared to last year’s storage of 77.67 TMC on this date, it is 6.55 TMC higher.
The major dams in the district include Ujani, Bhama Askhed, Manikdoh, Chaskaman, Pavana, Mulshi, Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet, Gunjavani, Nira Devghar, Bhatghar and Veer. Their total live storage capacity is 198.34 TMC.
