Weekend ‘Amavasya’ delaying decisions, Maha Yuti leaders to visit Delhi again
Mumbai: The people of Maharashtra are wondering why the Maha Yuti has not been able to form a government in the State after its sterling performance in the State Assembly elections.
There appears to be differences among the three alliance partners over portfolio distribution. Earlier, there was a deadlock over the Chief Minister’s post. It was sorted out in the meeting in Delhi on Thursday (November 28). This was conveyed by caretaker CM Eknath Shinde. The BJP would get the CM’s post and Devendra Fadnavis would take oath of office soon. The indication came from the meeting, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented a bouquet to Fadnavis.
However, the deadlock continued till Friday. It is being asked why the BJP could not elect its group leader from among the MLAs. There was no announcement about a meeting of newly elected MLAs and party observers.
According to sources, this weekend is inauspicious, being the Amavasya period. So, any new beginning is not made during the time. The BJP MLAs meeting is also not likely to take place this weekend. The Amavasya ends on Sunday afternoon. Thereafter, the government formation may pick up pace.
The Maha Yuti constituent parties are negotiating portfolio distribution, which is taking time. The BJP wants 20 ministries, including the CM’s post. The NCP (AP) wants 8-10 ministries, including the Finance Ministry.
The Maha Yuti leaders are likely to visit Delhi again after Amavasya. They will again hold a meeting with Amit Shah, said the sources.
