Women Await Clarity on Next Instalment of Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana After Mahayuti’s Election Victory; Senior Official Tells the Date
Pune:
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, a flagship scheme of the Mahayuti coalition, played a pivotal role in securing its massive win in the recent assembly elections. With a record turnout of female voters, the Mahayuti coalition emerged victorious in the assembly election. However, two weeks after the declaration of results, there has been no official statement from the government regarding the next instalment of the scheme for December, leaving women beneficiaries in uncertainty.
Ahead of the elections, the Mahayuti government deposited a combined amount of Rs 3,000 for October and November into the accounts of eligible women under the scheme. This move, timed strategically during the election campaign, was accompanied by a promise to increase the monthly instalment from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100. Yet, as December unfolds, there is still no clarity on whether the promised Rs 1,500 for this month will be disbursed, causing growing confusion among the women.
In this regard, a senior government official informed that women could expect a combined payout of Rs 3,000 for December and January before Makar Sankranti on January 14. While this assurance provides a glimmer of hope, the delay has left many questioning the commitment of the newly elected government to its electoral promises.
The scheme, a cornerstone of the Mahayuti coalition’s campaign, was fiercely debated in the run-up to the elections. The opposition dismissed it as a mere electoral gimmick, while the ruling coalition vowed to enhance its benefits post-election. Now, with the Mahayuti firmly in power, the silence on the next instalment has fuelled scepticism.
Government insiders attribute the delay to the challenges of cabinet formation and preparations for the upcoming winter session. However, as per the senior government official, the women would get a combined payout of Rs 3,000 for December and January before Makar Sankranti on January 14.
