Pune: Senior politician and NCP (SP) President Sharad Pawar has suggested setting up of a new municipal corporation as issues of population growth cannot be controlled by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pawar said, \u201cThe PMC\u2019s jurisdiction has expanded exponentially and it is not able to tackle issues of such a big area. A majority of local leaders, activists and citizens are of the view that a new civic body is the need of the hour. However, a decision on the issue should be taken with the consent of all the people concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pawar was in Wanawadi for a function. He visited the contact office of senior Congress leader Balasaheb Shivarkar. He was speaking at a discussion at his office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A felicitation function was held by the Satara Zilla Mitramandal on its golden jubilee. Yashwant Salukhe was honoured with the Ajinkyatara Award while Aditi Gopichand Swami was presented with the Krusha-Koynamai Award by Pawar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Former Governor Shriniwas Patil, former Minister Balasaheb Shivarkar, NCP (SP) City Unit President Prashant Jagtap, MLA Chetan Tupe-Patil, former MLA Mahadev Babar and Satara Zilla Mitramandal office-bearers and citizens hailing from Satara district were present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congress workers from the Hadapsar State Assembly constituency raised a demand with Sharad Pawar and Shriniwas Patil that Balasaheb Shivarkar should be fielded for one last time from the constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
