Pune: Last week, the Ektanagar and Pulachi Wadi areas on Sinhagad Road were submerged after a sudden discharge of water from the Khadakwasla dam. After that, the residents of the area accused the government of releasing water from the dam without adequate warning. People also held the river beautification project responsible for this disastrous flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This flood caused a widespread loss of people’s houses and their belongings. Taking cognizance of this, the Pune Municipal Corporation has appointed a three-member committee to investigate the cause of the flood. This committee will comprise officials of the construction, drainage, and roads departments of the municipality and an official of the irrigation department as invited members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Additional Commissioner of PMC, Prithviraj B.P., has ordered the committee to submit the report within seven days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the release of water from the Khadakwasla dam, a water bulge occurred in the Ektanagar area. The water from the drain coming from Sinhagad Road also entered the settlement. Therefore, to reduce the risk of flooding in Ektanagar and other colonies in the area, the work of removing flood debris and waste has started on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the flood, it has been alleged that the owners of the private land between Rajaram Bridge and Shivane put thousands of trucks of waste in the Mutha river basin and filled it. They were also planning to use the premises for commercial purposes. However, the PMC administration has also conveniently ignored this matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
