Pune: In response to the recent shocking incident in Kolkata, where a resident doctor was raped and murdered in a medical college, BJ Medical College in Pune has taken significant steps to enhance the safety and security of its female resident doctors. The college administration, under the guidance of Dr. Eknath Pawar, has announced a series of measures aimed at improving the security infrastructure on the premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Pawar, the founder of BJ Medical College, provided details about the new security initiatives. He revealed that CCTV cameras have already been installed at strategic locations across the college and Sassoon Hospital premises. However, in light of the recent events, the number of cameras will be further increased to ensure the safety of female doctors. A special committee has been formed to identify additional locations for these cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Given the vast expanse of the college and hospital premises, where female resident doctors often need to move between departments during the night for emergencies, the administration has decided to assign female security guards to accompany them. Additionally, security guards will conduct regular patrols throughout the premises. Dr. Pawar also mentioned that efforts will be made to improve lighting in poorly lit areas, further enhancing security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Resident Doctors Strike:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the Kolkata incident, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has initiated an indefinite strike, starting from Tuesday. Out of the 566 resident doctors at BJ Medical College, 386 have joined the strike, while 180 continue to work. To ensure patient care at Sassoon Hospital remains unaffected, doctors from other departments are assisting with patient examinations. Dr. Pawar confirmed that patient care has not been significantly impacted so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
