Pune: Customers are paid compensation through hearings of grievances against builders. The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA), till date, issued 1,163 warrants to recover compensation amounting to Rs 705 crore in 442 projects. Out of which Rs 200 crore has been recovered against 283 warrants from 139 projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The highest amount, Rs 76 crore, has been recovered from the Mumbai suburbs division, Rs 46 crore from Mumbai city and Rs 39 crore from the Pune division. Rs 505 crore compensation is still to be collected. Out of which Rs 288.12 crore from 73 projects in 355 complaints in the Mumbai suburbs division, Rs 150.72 crore in 201 complaints against 89 projects in Pune division is to be recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MahaRERA issues directives to builders concerned based on various complaints against them. After conducting hearings, developers are instructed to pay interest, compensation or return within a certain period depending on each matter. If developers fail to pay up, the District Collectorate recovers money from them. According to the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, the District Collectorates have the right to recover money as pending land revenue. The MahaRERA sends warrants to the District Collector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sambhaji Nagar division: Rs 3.84 crore, Nashik division: Rs 1.12 crore, Chandrapur division: Rs 9 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pune division has pending recovery of Rs 189.82 crore in 131 projects through 258 warrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe MahaRERA has appointed a retired senior officer from the Revenue Department. The officer follows up such cases continuously with the District Collectors, Deputy Collectors and Tehsildars. This has sped up the recovery in such cases. The MahaRERA has decided to appoint retired Tehsildars, on an experimental basis, to increase the efficiency in recovery from divisions such as Mumbai suburbs division and Pune division, where the number of cases and amounts is high.
