Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has prepared a plan to rehabilitate over 70 shops and 1,300 residents living within the blue line along the river in the Sinhagad Road area as they always have to be \u2018rescued\u2019 in the event of floods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They will be rehabilitated by the MHADA on the PMC-owned nearby land. Once the preliminary plan prepared by the civic administration is approved by the State Government, further action will be taken, said civic officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parts of some buildings built in the blue line in Hingne and Vitthalwadi submerge during the rainy season every year. Water is released into the river after the Khadakwasla dam is filled to its capacity. Citizens remain alert if the water level rises during the day. But it becomes difficult to shift stranded residents during the night. It is a risky job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the last rainy season, the river was in a spate and the water level rose till the first floor of many buildings. This led to criticism of the administration. The then CM Eknath Shinde visited the affected areas and ordered the administration to prepare a rehabilitation plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PMC has now prepared the plan as per the CM\u2019s directive. It includes short and long-term measures for rehabilitation. It mentions that over 1,300 residents and 70 shops can be rehabilitated on a nearby PMC land through the MHADA. The estimated cost of the plan is Rs 300. Additional FSI can be made available under the new DC rules. The plan will be presented to the State Government.
