Pune: NGO Parisar submitted a report to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over burning of solid waste in the open across the city. Now, the civic body has formed a special squad to act against those who burn garbage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a citizen complains to the PMC about any such incident, they will visit the spot and take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burning garbage is adding to air pollution. Moreover, the growing vehicle population and construction projects are worsening the situation. Garbage, including plastic waste, is dumped on the roadside and then burnt. Consequently, carbon dioxide and other poisonous gases are released in the atmosphere. NGO Parisar is working to stop such practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PMC has appointed a special squad in each ward. Its members will work in two-three shifts. Some citizens were burning a heap of dried leaves in Bhosale Nagar. An alert citizen saw it and complained to the civic body. Taking immediate note of the phone call, the special squad reached the spot and warned the citizens concerned, said Sharmila Deo of Parisar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, some citizens from Kondhwa called up the PMC to report burning of garbage but they did not get any reply. Deo said that citizens contacted the ward office concerned and got the matter registered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pune Air Action Hub\u2019s Pushkar Kulkarni said, \u201cThe National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued instructions to the PMC about garbage burning last year. It told the civic body to upload details about complaints received and resolved every month on the PMC website.
