Pune :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has presented a Rs 12,618 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, ensuring no increase in taxes while making substantial allocations for water supply, road infrastructure, and healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, while presenting the budget, emphasised that despite financial constraints, the civic body has prioritised key urban development projects. The administration aims to enhance basic amenities without burdening taxpayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the budget, PMC expects to generate revenue from the following sources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Rs 545 crore from local body tax<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Rs 2,701 crore from GST<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Rs 2,847 crore from property tax<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Rs 2,899 crore from construction development fees<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Rs 618 crore from water tax<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Rs 1,633 crore from government grants<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Rs 300 crore from debt securities<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Rs 975 crore from other sources<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Water Usage Bills for Pune Residents; Metering System in Place<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A significant policy shift will see Pune residents being billed for their water usage starting next year. The municipal commissioner confirmed that the civic body has nearly completed the implementation of a uniform water supply scheme, which will ensure fair and efficient water distribution across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Roads, Healthcare, and Water Supply Get Major Share<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    PMC has made substantial budgetary provisions across crucial sectors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Rs 490 crore for building construction<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Rs 1,126 crore for road infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Rs 396 crore for the river improvement scheme<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Rs 569 crore for healthcare services<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Rs 1,665 crore for water supply projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Rs 142 crore for solid waste management<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    7. Rs 623 crore for the 34 newly added villages under PMC<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Additionally, the civic body has set aside funds to rehabilitate flood-affected homes in Ekta Nagri on Sinhagad Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Education, Sports, and Public Health to Get a Boost<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The municipal budget also promises improvements in public amenities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. A study room for students preparing for competitive exams<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. A new sports complex at Mohamadwadi<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Renovation of Nehru Stadium<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. A laboratory for infectious diseases<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      5. An emergency room for rapid medical response<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Meanwhile, a political controversy erupted as opposition leaders, especially from the Mahavikas Aghadi, alleged that the commissioner favoured ruling party leaders while approving development projects. Interestingly, while PMC’s budget stands at Rs 12,618 crore, political leaders across party lines had collectively proposed projects worth a staggering Rs 30,000 crore.
