Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Thursday issued a new and significant Government Resolution (GR), which mandates that officers must stand up when any MLA or MP enters or exits their office. Additionally, officers must speak politely and respectfully with elected representatives\u2014even on phone calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar issued this GR, stating that giving due respect to public representatives enhances the credibility, accountability, and efficiency of the administration. The GR also warns that strict action will be taken against officers who fail to comply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government has consolidated several old circulars to create a clearer and stricter set of guidelines. This move comes after several MLAs and MPs recently complained that officers were not granting appointments or paying enough attention to public grievances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key directives in the new GR<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers must stand up when an MLA\/MP enters or leaves the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They must listen carefully to the elected representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phone conversations must be polite and respectful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A separate register must be maintained for letters from public representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All letters must be answered within two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If not possible, officers must inform their seniors and update the respective MLA\/MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
