Pune: A hardened criminal, who was out on bail after being booked under MPDA and MCOCA, has been arrested by the Yerwada Police after remaining absconding for nearly two months.
The accused, along with his associates, had created terror in Kamarajnagar, Yerwada, by vandalizing vehicles and attacking a youth over an old rivalry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrested accused has been identified as Sameer Shabbir Shaikh (27, resident of Jayjawan Nagar, Yerwada).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The complainant, Anis Sikandar Shaikh (28, resident of Kamarajnagar), had lodged an FIR at Yerwada Police Station.
The incident took place on 7 October night, when Sameer and his associates Zhaur Shaikh, Azad Aslam Khan, Mustafa Bepari, Sahil Nadiyal, Sultan Shaikh and two others abused, threatened, attempted assault with iron weapons, and smashed the windows of rickshaws and other vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accused also brandished sharp weapons and shouted, \u201cI am the don here,\u201d creating panic in the locality.
Some accomplices had already been arrested earlier, but Sameer had fled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police officer Amol Gaikwad received a tip-off that Sameer was coming to meet a friend in Pawar Vasti, Lohegaon.
Acting swiftly, PSI Mahesh Phatangare and the police team laid a trap and arrested him.
During interrogation, Sameer confessed that he committed the crime due to an old rivalry and to create fear in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
