Pune: The increasing number of stray dogs in the city has become a serious public safety concern, with a noticeable rise in dog attack incidents. Children, women, and senior citizens are particularly at risk as packs of stray dogs have begun roaming freely, even during daytime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following a tragic incident in the Chakan area, fear has spread among residents. Concerns have been raised over health risks such as rabies, the spread of infections due to dog bites, and even road accidents caused by attempts to avoid attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Corporator Aishwarya Surendra Pathare has urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take immediate and concrete action. She has also demanded a time-bound action plan to address the issue effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key demands include conducting an official survey of stray dogs in Pune, implementing large-scale sterilization (ABC) and rabies vaccination drives, and ensuring proper identification through ear tags or collars. She also called for the relocation of aggressive dogs, establishment of dedicated shelters, stricter waste management to control population growth, and the introduction of a 24×7 complaint redressal system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
